In the early 1970-1980s, phenomenology as a human science inquiry was still finding its place within academia. However, there was only limited opportunity to publish manuscripts driven by a phenomenological methodology.
In 1983, with Stephen Smith, Robert Burch, and Catherine Adams, we launched the journal Phenomenology + Pedagogy to support building a community of phenomenological scholarship in pedagogy, psychology, nursing, the health sciences and other professional fields. As well a basic website PhenomenologyOnline had been constructed and launched in the early 1990s that supported this work. During the subsequent decade, various media appeared that accepted and sponsored phenomenological work in discipline-specific journals and outlets.
Therefore, in 1992 we decided to cease the journal Phenomenology + Pedagogy as gradually more publication opportunities presented themselves for this scholarship.
In 2007 the journal Phenomenology & Practice was launched and is presently managed and edited by Tone Saevi, Andrew Foran, Patrick Howard, and Erika Goble in support of contemporary phenomenological human science scholarship related to professional fields.
The website PhenomenologyOnline which was originally developed and conceived by Catherine Adams, Norm Friesen, and Stephen Smith, became dated and was discontinued in 2021. But recently, phenomenologyonline.com has been reconceived and re-launched with the inventive expertise of Michael van Manen. He created the WordCloud approach to the updated online project of a phenomenology of practice.

Textorium
For close to 40 years, a graduate course on phenomenology brought together students and colleagues from diverse disciplines and interests: pedagogy, psychology, education, nursing, philosophy and so forth. As an exercise of the course, students explored and wrote a research paper on a phenomenological topic. While many of these research papers were subsequently published in professional and academic journals, others found their home in an online collection that we named Textorium.
